How do conversion and AVIF/JXL work?

Enable conversion and select multiple formats for separate actual files. Larger converted outputs are still downloadable; same-format compression keeps smaller originals. AVIF/JXL use local single-thread WASM, up to 4 MP, with lossy quality. Only static 8-bit sRGB images with supported headers are decoded; animation and special profiles are protected. JXL may need a compatible viewer. Conversion removes metadata. Transparent JXL is encoded losslessly to preserve alpha; the quality slider does not apply to that output.

Will compression change image quality?

JPG, static WebP and smart PNG use lossy compression. Quality 100 is not a lossless guarantee. PNG lossless mode preserves pixels; GIF preserves animation, timing and loops. Smaller originals are kept.

Which PNG mode should I use?

Smart is the default: perceptual color reduction plus OxiPNG, with exact alpha and color-error checks. The slider sets color and error targets. Failed checks or larger outputs fall back to lossless. Lossless mode preserves all pixels. APNG, 16-bit and some color-profile PNGs bypass quantization.

What about animated images?

Gifsicle optimizes complete GIF animations. Animated WebP and APNG are kept unchanged with an explanation; they are not flattened to a single frame. Original dimensions are retained.

Can I use this offline?

No installation is needed. Open the production site online and allow the page and engines to finish caching. You can then compress or reopen this URL offline in the same browser. Private mode, cleared or evicted caches may prevent offline use. Reloading clears the image queue.

What are the limits and metadata rules?

Keep up to 100 images, each up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels. GIFs are limited to 500 frames and 100 million frame pixels. JPG/WebP encoding removes EXIF and other metadata; JPEG orientation follows browser decoding. PNG/GIF metadata may remain. Use a dedicated tool to check sensitive metadata.
